Unlock iphone 4 or iphone 3gs with Ultrasnow!

August 4, 2010

Well hot on the heels of comex’s ‘JailBreakMe’ the first jailbreak via the iphone safari app, comes the dev team’s ‘Ultrasn0w’ unlock!

According to the follow post from iphonehacks.com, users can unlock all baseband versions of the iphone 3gs and iphone 4. The Ultrasn0w unlock is availble via Cydia, so you will need to jailbreak first. Click here for more on JailBreakMe, and read more from the iphonehacks post…………

iPhone Dev Team has released Ultrasn0w 1.0-1 to unlock iPhone 4 just as we had expected.

This makes it the world’s first free softwaresolution to unlock iPhone 4. iPhone Dev team had already released Ultrasn0w 0.93 to unlock all basebands since iPhone OS 3.0including baseband 05.13.04 that comes bundled with iOS 4 for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users.

iPhone Dev Team announced the release of Ultrasn0w for iPhone 4 on their blog:

Version 1.0-1 of ultrasn0w works for:

  • iPhone4 baseband 01.59
  • 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04

So if you have jailbroken your iPhone 4 on iOS 4 or iOS 4.0.1 usingJailbreakMe then you should be able to install Ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock your iPhone 4 for free.

Ultrasn0w 1.0-1 can also be installed by iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GSusers to unlock their iPhone on iOS 4 or iOS 4.0.1 or earlier (upto iPhone OS 3.0).

Here are the steps that you can follow:

  1. Launch Cydia
  2. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia.  That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”. If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error.
  3. Then search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in Cydia and install ultrasn0w.
  4. T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w.

This should successfully unlock your iPhone.

We have already got confirmations from our readers that they’ve successfully unlocked their iPhone 4.

As always, let us know how it goes.

Thanks everyone for the tip!

Jailbroken? Don’t Update to 3.1.3!!

February 8, 2010

Gudday. I know is been awhile since I have posted anything, but work commitments have kept me busy.

I thought the following taken from ‘The Rock’ app’s home page was pretty important for those of you who have jailbroken or want to jailbreak your iPhones……..

This warning applies to owners of
iPod touch 3
iPod touch 2 with serial *MC*
Any 3g unlockers

iPhone OS 3.1.3 is now out from Apple. Supposedly it fixes some battery issues. (Doesn’t every release make things faster and fix battery problems?) There are no new features. The release only stops jailbreaks. That’s right. No new features.

Currently there is no jailbreak for this firmware. Unofficial sources have confirmed that they have patched up the method we used to jailbreak 3.1.2 so you will not be able to jailbreak. If you update you will lose all your jailbreak apps and will not be able to get them back. In other words, updating means you lose a lot of stuff in return for almost nothing back. In addition, there is no ETA on a jailbreak for 3.1.3. It may never be jailbroken. It is likely that they (dev team, geohot) will not waste another hole on 3.1.3. They will most likely hold it for the bigger update that will come with the release of the iPad and iPhone 4.0.
Unlockers – you cannot unlock the new baseband. This woudl apply to those 3g users that can jailbreak 3g. If you update, you will not be able to unlock.

One more thing, as of right now, Apple is still signing 3.1.2 for you 3gs users but no one knows for how much longer they will be. Make sure you *rush* into Cydia or Rock and get your keys signed on the front page if you have not. This will make certain you can always restore 3.1.2 even in the future using Saurik’s server.

To summarize:
– Update adds NO NEW FEATURES, do not update.
– Update kills your jailbreak. Do not update.
– Get your 3gs 3.1.2 keys signed by Cydia/Rock now if you haven’t.
– Unlock does not work on new baseband.

Geo Hot’s blacksn0w unlock!

November 2, 2009

Returned from overseas lately with an iPhone and want to use it here on Vodafone or the Telecom XT network? Well now you can thanks to GeoHot!

He has successfully unlocked the 05.11.07 baseband , which means you can now unlock the new 3gs iPhones!

The unlock works on both the iPhone 3G and 3GS and will unlock to any carrier. It is estimated to be released on November 4th and sounds like it will be installed via the blackra1n jailbreak.

Check out the video here!

GeoHot goes off at the shitheads who sell the jailbreak/unlock software…..good job buddy!!

I have an unlock for 05.11.07. I will be releasing on 11/04/09, for $0.00

First off, Jody Sanders, I am declining your $10,000. Why? Because you, and the rest of the iPhone unlock sites out there are scum. You make money selling freeware; that’s not cool, and I am in no way going to legitimize it.

Seriously, the people who really lose here are the customers. These sites are full of blatant lies, claiming to have unlocks for 05.11.07 People buy them, and are told the unlock is in development, and the release date is unknown. Imagine you bought a cup of coffee and were told it’s in development? Recently, many of these sites sent out e-mails saying they made major breakthroughs and the unlock will be ready 11/04/09. Coincidence that that’s the release date of blacksn0w?

I’m not going to post all these scam sites here, as I don’t want to give them the pagerank boost. Rather I’ll give you a whitelist, two people make unlocks, me and the dev team. Every iPhone unlock site you see out there is selling our stuff, repackaged in some form or another. Same goes for jailbreaks, although ih8sn0w and chronicdev are legit. Notice what all the legit ones have in common? They are free.

Now despite rumors of the ferocity of my legal team, they actually are pretty poor lawyers. And the scum who run these websites are the type who get off on legal battles. So we have to fight them in another way, and I’m asking for everyones help on this. Our weapon is information. Get the truth out, that all iPhone unlocks and jailbreaks are free, and if you are buying something, you aren’t getting anything a simple google search couldn’t get you, and are probably funding someones crack habit.

This is the first time I have tried to make something simple for the end users, and it enrages me to see people selling it. Let’s shut all these *guys down, and tell the iPhone owning world all they need is at blackra1n.com, including blacksn0w instructions on it’s release date, 11/04/09 (yes, will support hacktivation). You do your part, and I’ll do mine making things as simple, reliable, and straightforward as possible.

Blackra1n RC2 Released

October 27, 2009

UPDATE blackra1n RC2 now available Windows and Mac

Click the link at the bottom of the post AFTER YOU READ IT.

The following is taken from:

Apple Iphone School

Last night, GeoHot has released blakra1n RC2. The jailbreak offers a few more features such as a tethered jailbreak for out-of-the box 3.1 firmware as well the new iPhone 3GS that ships with the new bootrom. The new version of blackra1n also includes a working version of Icy… the previous version of the jailbreak included an older version of Icy which was causing issues for a lot of people.

You can download blackra1n RC2 at blackra1n.com.. There is both a Windows and a Mac version of the jailbreak. Below is a complete list of new features for blackra1n RC2.

** Update — RC2 is out **
Fixed 3G issues
Tethered jailbreak for 3.1 OOTB ipt 8GB and new 3GSes
Fixed Icy issues
Both Windows and Mac
If you used RC1 with success, no need to rerun………..

And now the original post:

A few days ago we told you about GoeHot and that he had found a jailbreak, which he is calling blackra1n, that would work on all devices. Well, last night, he released the jailbreak.

There are a few things to note.

– The jailbreak is now available for Windows and Mac.

– blackra1n does not hactivate your iPhone (fake activate it). So, in order to use this jailbreak you will need to have an iPhone on an official carrier.

– 3G and 3GS unlockers “do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings.”

– blackra1n does jailbreak the third generation iPod touch however, it is a tether jailbreak. ” In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n.”

– blackra1n should work on devices using firmware 3.0 and up.

If you fit all those rules, you can get the jailbreak here.

Dev-Team Releases Jailbreak For Firmware 3.1.2.

October 14, 2009

The whole jailbreak thing seems to be a lot more complicated than it used to be with three different kinds of iPhones out there. But if you can decifer the following taken from Apple Iphone School and YOU HAVE READ IT CAREFULLY, then good luck and happy jailbreaking!

The Dev-Team has released a jailbreak for firmware 3.1.2. The jailbreak (PwnageTool 3.1.4) works for the iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS. It also work on the 1G and 2G iPod touch. It does not support the 3G iPod touch at this time. PwnageTool only works on a Mac (no Windows version yet).

If you are an unlocker, “It is super important that people who need the unlock to understand they can keep it only by starting at 3.0 (or earlier) and updating solely to custom IPSWs that don’t update the baseband. For those who have been onboard the “unlock train”, simply install ultrasn0w via Cydia once you’ve restored to your custom IPSW. Don’t forget to turn off the “3G” setting in Settings->General->Network if you use T-Mobile in the U.S.A.”

Below is a snippet from the Dev-Team’s website. However, you will want to check out their blog for full information and the download.

Be sure to read everything carefully before you begin your jailbreak.

Pwnage Pie

Here are some details on our latest version of PwnageTool 3.1.4 for Mac OS X which supports the 3.1.2 release of the iPhone software for iPhone 2G/3G/3GS and iPod Touch 1G/2G.

If you’re already jailbroken (by whatever means), you don’t need to mess around with DFU mode at all. Just create (or get from a friend) your custom IPSW and Option-Restore (Shift-Restore on Windows) to it via iTunes. Don’t enter DFU mode at all. Please make sure you are restoring to the custom IPSW, not the stock one from Apple! For best results, use the latest iTunes (9.0.1) — which includes a nice new application organizer.

This release allows your baseband to remain unlocked at 3.1.2, but it does not unlock a new baseband put there by restoring to official 3.1.x. It is super important that people who need the unlock to understand they can keep it only by starting at 3.0 (or earlier) and updating solely to custom IPSWs that don’t update the baseband. For those who have been onboard the “unlock train”, simply install ultrasn0w via Cydia once you’ve restored to your custom IPSW. Don’t forget to turn off the “3G” setting in Settings->General->Network if you use T-Mobile in the U.S.A.

Note for 3GS users not already jailbroken and stuck at 3.1.x: this version of PwnageTool has a side feature to jailbreak your 3GS. It uses a simple implementation of the usb control msg hole found by chronicdev, geohot, and our very own gray. Now that the hole is public and in use, we expect Apple to close it by the next major firmware update. That’s why 3GS users need to get their ECID hashes for 3.1.x now, and need to stay onboard the “jailbreak train” in all future updates. For more details on what this means, please see our earlier posts or ask in our comments section (moderated by the always helpful @angie and @confucious!).

For the early adopters who ran blackra1n and are having problems with mobilesubstrate, winterboard, diskaid, or ifunbox, you can install a custom .ipsw from PwnageTool to fix these issues. That’s because all jailbroken devices accept a custom .ipsw created by PwnageTool. (However, if you ran blackra1n on a 3G or 3GS that means you updated to stock 3.1.x, and the carrier unlock is now out of reach. We’ll continue to work on a carrier unlock for the latest basebands, but the timeframe for such an unlock is unknowable.)

Note: If you use internet tethering on a carrier that doesn’t officially support it, you’ll lose it by going to 3.1.x. Stay back at 3.0 until a hack for that is developed.

* The iPhone 3GS is now supported out of the box in PwnageTool 3.1.4 (or if you have upgraded to 3.1.x in iTunes)
* The iPod 2G is still supported in PwnageTool 3.1.4 but you must already be jailbroken (we’ll update this if there’s a big demand from non-jailbroken ipt2G owners)
* The iPod touch 3G is NOT supported

1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G(S) with ultrasn0w and rely on ultrasn0w to obtain cellular service then you should only update your device with an .ipsw that is made with the new PwnageTool. There are no second chances with this. You need to remember that PwnageTool will provide an upgrade path to newer versions of the iPhone software in the future.
2. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
3. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
4. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the 3.1.4 capable version of PwnageTool.
5. PwnageTool will work for the iPhone 3GS
6. PwnageTool will work for the iPod touch 2G
7. PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G(S) and the iPod touch (1st Generation and 2nd Generation) but NOT the iPod touch 3rd generation.
8. For 3G and 3G(S) users who are Pwned, PwnageTool is your key to updating in the future, just remember to never install an update directly from Apple, always use an .ipsw that has been created with PwnageTool.
9. There is no Windows version of PwnageTool it is a Mac OS X tool only, we are not developing a Windows version of PwnageTool.
